JAKARTA: A senior Golkar member said Friday there was no dissension within the party, despite a potentially rebellious meeting Monday at the house of chief welfare minister Aburizal Bakrie.

Priyo Budi Santoso, the Golkar head at the House of Representatives, said communications among senior party figures and members had intensified to help Vice President and party chairman Jusuf Kalla and his running mate Wiranto win the July 8 presidential election.

"I have checked found there is no indication of efforts to undermine the JK-Wiranto bid to win the race," Priyo said as quoted by state news agency Antara.

He added Agung Laksono, Aburizal, Surya Paloh and other senior Golkar members remained committed to supporting Kalla and Wiranto.

Priyo, along with Agung, Akbar Tandjung and Surya, were among those attending the meeting at Aburizal's residence in Menteng, Central Jakarta.

Several of Kalla's aides suspected the meeting was being held to bring forward a congress to topple Kalla as Golkar chairman.

Priyo said if some party figures still had differing opinions about Golkar's policy, he would make every possible effort to conduct persuasive communications with them.

In Semarang, Golkar's Central Java head Bambang Sadono rejected any proposal to hold an extraordinary national party meeting to oust Kalla.

He told Antara there was no valid reason for holding such an extraordinary meeting. - JP

Only a completely ignorant person would think that Kalla has any chance whatsoever.
All he is doing is destroying Golkar and yet no one has the courage to tell him to retire.
What they are doing is waiting for him to fail regardless of the cost to Golkar.
Is there any wonder Kalla has such a bad reputation?
