Tons of food, plants destroyed at airport

TANGERANG: Quarantine officers at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport destroyed 16 kinds of food that could carry diseases and nine other media allegedly transporting organism that could infect plants.

The media that could carry animal diseases consisted of 1.4 tons pork from Singapore, 2 tons of pork from Palembang, South Sumatra, sausages, beef jerky, shredded meat (abon) and eggs.

The media that could carry infectious organisms included nut seeds and vegetable seeds.

Wawan Setiawan, head of monitoring deparment at the Quarantine office said the owners of the food and plants had no import and export documents from the regions or the countries of origin. - JP
