The government needs to allocate Rp 1.25 trillion ($120 million) next year to subsidize bio-fuels to meets its own mandatory targets, the Indonesian Biofuel Producers Association (Aprobi) said Wednesday.

Speaking at a hearing with the House of Commission VII on energy and mineral resources, Aprobi chairman Lisminto said that the projected subsidy need is based on the government-set mandatory target to use at least 1 percent bio-ethanol on subsidized Premium fuel and up to 5 percent of bio-diesel in subsidized diesel fuel.

"The average required subsidy is Rp 1,450 a liter for Bio-ethanol and Rp 1,660 a liter for Biodiesel," Lisminto said.

Aprobi estimated that Indonesia would need 214,541 kiloliters of bio-ethanol and 562,543 kiloliters of biodiesel next year.
