JAKARTA: Hundreds of bus drivers and attendants rallied Wednesday at Cawang junction, East Jakarta, protesting against the city transportation agency's newly implemented regulation that prohibits inter-city buses from stopping at the junction.
"Where will we drop off our passengers who want to stop here?" Bahtiar, the rally coordinator, said, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
The protesters, who began their rally on Jl. DI Panjaitan at 8 a.m., planned to close the street, but failed to do so as the police came to stop them.
Hulman Sitorus, an official with the agency, said his agency would implement the rule, as they had spent a month communicating the regulation last month.
"The essence of inter-city buses is to move passengers from a bus terminal to another," he said. - JP
