DENPASAR: Starting this year, the Denpasar administration will begin efforts to make the island's capital a healthy city by 2011.

Denpasar Development Planning Board (Bappeda) head I Gusti Putu Anindya Putra said on Friday plans to make Denpasar a healthy city had been conducted since the end of 2008.

The administration will also form several community-based discussion groups to support the efforts.

"All parties may take part in the *healthy city* program, in which every resident will have access to health services," he said, adding that Denpasar had started the program by optimizing social shelters and Puskesmas (community health centers).

In 2011, Denpasar will also take part in the national healthy city contest.

"Our focus *in joining the contest* is not to win, but to motivate everyone to help make Denpasar a healthy city to live in," Putra added. - JP
