JAKARTA: The adage "It's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye" seems to apply to a report filed Friday with the Jakarta Police by a man who claimed to have been mistreated by the North Jakarta police.

Sahabudin, a.k.a. Antong, who lost his left eye in a fight and subsequently reported the attacker to the North Jakarta Police, claimed they did not treat his case fairly because the attacker remained free.

The attack occurred in December 2008 in a North Jakarta karaoke bar when a slight misunderstanding turned bloody after the attacker, E.C.S., hit Antong with a beer glass, breaking the glass and throwing shards of glass into Antong's face, cutting his eyes, nose and lips.

Antong was taken to Husada Hospital in North Jakarta, where he received treatment, though his left eye could not be saved.

His wife, Linawaty Ang, reported the attack to the North Jakarta Police that same night, but no follow-up was made.

"We are asking the Jakarta Police to take over the case and investigate why the North Jakarta Police have not yet arrested *E.C.S.*," said Andar Situmorang, Antong's lawyer.

Police internal affairs division head Sr. Comr. Erwin Hasibuan said he had received the report and would investigate the matter.

"It's their right to report. Whether it's true or not will depend on our investigation," he said. - JP
