At least 12 people died and seven others were seriously injured when their intercity bus plying the Padang-Batusangkar route plunged into a 15-meter-deep ravine in Silaing, Kota Padang Panjang, in West Sumatra on Sunday.
The twelve passengers had died on the scene, Padangpanjang police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Wisnu Andayana told Antara news agency on Sunday. The injured were taken to Yarsi Hospital in the area.
The bus was climbing a hill after crossing a bridge over the ravine, when its engine failed, Wisnu said. The bus had then rolled backward down the hill and off the bridge.
On Sunday afternoon, Police were still working to remove the bus wreck. (dre)
