Prosecutors detained the regent of Cilacap, Central Java, on Tuesday after questioning him for nine hours over a corruption scandal.
The disgraced regent, Probo Yulastoro, is accused of embezzling Rp 21.8 million from local administration funds between 2004 and 2008.
“We have sufficient evidence to detain the suspect,” said deputy head of the Central Java Prosecutor’s Office, Arnold B.M. Angkouw.
Investigators sent Probo to Kedungpane Prison to facilitate further questioning, said prosecutor Uung Abdul Syukur.
The prosecutors had previously arrested Probo’s subordinate, Fajar Subekti, head of the Cilacap Finance Office.
Probo had previously defied a summons scheduled for May 26.
