The House of Representatives will meet with the General Elections Commission (KPU) on June 8 to discuss the validity of the presidential election electoral roll.
"We want to confirm the validity of the electoral roll with the KPU. We want to avoid another mess like the one that took place during the legislative election," Ferry Mursyidan, one of the legislators from the House Commission II for general elections, said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
"We'll have to use the remaining time to review the procedures employed by the KPU in updating the electoral roll. The fact that the electoral roll increased by around 5 million voters does not mean that the commission has done a better job, because we have received a lot of reports saying that the list still contains a lot of double or twin names," he added.
During the April 9 general election, losing political parties and civil society groups claimed that around 40 million eligible voters were unable to vote due to the KPU's failure in updating the list.
The mismanagement has raised questions regarding the validity of the election results, which put the Democratic Party as the winner. (hdt)
