Worth Rp 150 billion, the facilities include new radars at four airports, including Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport, Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, Sepinggan International Airport in Balikpapan, and Syamsuddin Noor Airport in Banjarmasin.
Air traffic control (ATC) systems will be implemented at airports in Bali and Surabaya and at the Makassar Air Traffic Service Center (MATSC).
Bambang Darwoto, director of general affairs at the state-run airport operator, PT Angkasa Pura I, said the new facilities were provided to improve air traffic services and safety.
Bambang said most of the navigation facilities, especially the radars, in all airports in Indonesia were between 20 and 30 years old.
