TANGERANG: Head of the Tangerang Elections Commission (KPUD), Imron Khamami, stood trial on Thursday due to his alleged implication in vote rigging during the April 25 legislative elections.

Prosecutor Sukamto said Imron and four KPUD members allegedly manipulated votes in favor of Abdul Syukur and Krisna Gunata, both Golkar Party candidates for the Banten provincial council.

The prosecutor said Yogie Ahun Saud, a witness during the vote tally, filed a complaint over the total votes for Tangerang.

The total votes from all political parties should have been 2,108, not 2,298, he said.

Imron and the four KPUD members, who stood separate trials, were charged for violating the 2008 Election Law. - JP
