NGOs urge the KPU to fix the electoral roll

JAKARTA: Two NGOs have called on the General Elections Commission (KPU) to take measures to ensure all voters are registered in the upcoming presidential election.

Daniel Zuchron, coordinator for the People's Voter Education Network (JPRR), said the commission should work closely with the government and polling bodies at provincial and regency levels to ensure all potential voters were registered on the electoral roll.

"The addition of five million voters to the electoral roll still does not reflect the total number of voters in Indonesia. There are still many left unregistered from the roll," he said Thursday.

Adnan Anwar from the Institute for Economic and Social Research, Education and Information (LP3ES), said the 2007 general election law should be revised so the Statistical Bureau (BPS) could help with coordinating the numbers if the polling was unable to effectively manage the electoral roll, . -JP
