AKARTA: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono launched on Friday the Indonesian Education League, a soccer league created to net talented players among junior high school to university students across the country.
Matches will begin at regency/municipal level competing for local regent/mayor's trophies and end at the national level competing for the President's trophy.
"I hope that the Indonesian Education League can be a tool to achieve our good aims, including strengthening the characters of the nation, enhancing our unity and fraternity, and boosting our sport achievements," Yudhoyono said in a speech during the inauguration ceremony.
He then walked to the middle of the field, kicked a ball to officiate the league, and witnessed a match between teams from Jakarta and Banten until almost halfway of the game.
