The Jakarta Police will deploy more than 20,000 officers to safeguard the July 8 presidential election.

"As the number of voters in every polling station increases, they need more attention from the officers," Jakarta Police Chief Insp. Gen Wahyono said Monday.

Based on the latest data from the Jakarta Elections Commission (KPUD), a polling station will serve 800 registered voters compared to 500 voters in the previous legislative elections.

The Jakarta KPUD has prepared 12,051 polling stations to serve 7.6 million registered voters in the city.

Wahyono said he had received a police monitoring report, which stated there was no indication of a possible clash among parties.

"But we have things to monitor like those in the legislative election. We have to closely watch money politics...," he said.
