Ministers in Jayapura to resolve airport occupation

Several ministers are scheduled to leave for Jayapura Monday and will meet with Police Chief of Papua and other officials to resolve the occupation of an airport in Kapeso, Mamberamo, Papua, which has been blockaded since Sunday.
State news agency Antara reported Monday that Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Widodo AS, Chief Military Commander Djoko Santosa, Home Affairs Minister Mardiyanto and National Police Chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri will meet with the Police Chief of Papua, Sarmi and Mamberamo regency officials tomorrow.
Papua Police Chief Gen. Bagus Eko Danto said Monday his office had deployed a number of Mobile Brigade Unit (Brimob) officers to the airport and was waiting for further instructions from the National Police Chief.
“I received the latest news saying that Deky Imbiri, who led the armed separatist Free Papua Movement (OPM), left the place and headed into the forest,” he said.
The ministers are scheduled to hold a meeting with the Governor of Papua and chairman of the provincial representatives council. (ewd)
