JAKARTA: Jakarta's Environment Management Board (BPLHD) will enforce smoking bans in North Jakarta on June 18.

"The inspections could be anywhere," BPLHD head Peni Susanti told beritajakarta.com on Wednesday.

Smoking bans are being applied in educational instutions, hospitals, mosques, churches, bus stations, offices and shopping malls.

Peni said the smoking operation would be joined by officers from Jakarta Public Order Agency, the police and the North Jakarta District Court.

"The ID cards of people who are caught smoking in designated non-smoking areas will be confiscated and they will have to attend a trial at the North Jakarta District Court," she said. - JP
