A survey conducted by the Indonesian Socio-political Development Strategy Research Center (PKSPSPI) showed that the presidential race would end in two rounds.
Incumbent President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will win the first round with 37.05 percent of the vote, the survey found.
Megawati Sukarnoputri would get second place with 31.5 percent of votes, while Jusuf Kalla would gain 26.6 percent.
The presidential election law stipulates that candidate must gain more than 50 percent of votes to win the presidential election directly.
"There are several factors that could make it difficult each candidates to gain at least 50 percent of votes,” PKSPSPI coordinator Iberamsjah said in Jakarta on Thursday.
These factors included the similar political basis of all three candidates; the lack of image building efforts; and weak political coalitions.
“But the most fragile coalition is between pair [with election] number two [SBY and Boediono],” Iberamsjah said.
“SBY’s electability has been dropping due to the bad attitudes of some of his campaign team members in the past couple of weeks." (hdt)
