Book vendors in Kwitang evicted

JAKARTA: Central Jakarta's public order agency evicted book vendors on Jl. Kramat Buntu, Kwitang, Central Jakarta, on Thursday.

The book vendors did not fight back as 50 officers from the agency demolished 16 temporary kiosks built along the sidewalk.

"The agency forced the vendors to leave because they remained there after being asked several times to move," Senen district head Hidayatullah said, as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

The municipal administration has allotted spaces for the vendors at the JaCC shopping center in Kebon Kacang and at the Senen Market. Some of the sellers have moved there, but several others insisted on staying in Kwitang. - JP
