The Aceh Party has pledged to remain neutral in the presidential
election and is encouraging its supporters to vote for their choice of candidate in accordance with their conscience.
Spokesman for the party Adnan Beuransyah said the visit of presidential candidate Jusuf Kalla on Saturday would not prompt the party to reconsider its neutrality.
“The visit of Jusuf Kalla to our office was for a get-together, there was no political deal on the table,” Adnan told state news agency Antara.
He added the party leaders respected Kalla as a figure who contributed a lot to the formation of the local party, which won the most seats at the provincial legislative council in the April 9 elections.
The party would welcome visits by other presidential candidates, Adnan said.
When asked about Aceh Party members who campaigned for presidential candidate Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Adnan said they acted in their capacity as individuals and did not represent the party.
