Vote reruns in S. Nias, Yahukimo on July 8

JAKARTA: The General Elections Commission (KPU) decided Friday that vote reruns in South Nias and Yahukimo would be held simultaneously with the presidential election on July 8.

"We'll hold the legislative election reruns in South Nias and Yahukimo simultaneously with the presidential election for cost and time considerations," said KPU chairman Abdul Hafiz Anshary.

He pointed out the reruns in both regencies would be based on the initial electoral rolls used in the April 9 legislative polls.

The commission is still discussing potential technical problems that might occur during the reruns.

"All technical matters as pertain to polling stations, ballots and funding for the reruns are still being discussed," he said, adding the funding will come from the state budget. - JP
