Boediono promises to develop local culture

Vice presidential candidate Boediono has pledged that he and presidential hopeful Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) will develop concrete programs to encourage local culture and arts, kompas.com has reported.
During a campaign rally in Magelang, Central Java on Sunday, Boediono said globalization must not discourage the Indonesian people from creating new art.
He believed Indonesian people had the creativity, based on a free, dynamic and unbounded soul, to take on globalization.
During the two-hour event, Boediono watched performances from 14 groups of artists organized by the Mendut Studio.
Politician Eros Djarot and top writers Goenawan Muhammad and Ayu Utami attended the event. (ewd)
