Finance Minister denies govt used loans for direct cash assistance

Finance minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has denied that the government used foreign loans to finance its program to disburse direct cash assistance (BLT) to people on low incomes, tempointeraktif.com reported Sunday.“Since 2005, we have taken the budget from the compensation we recieved due to the skyrocketing fuel prices,” she said, adding that the government was using the loans for national people’s empowerment programs.
Sri Mulyani, who is the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, made the statement to counter those from the chairman of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) Anwar Nasution. (ewd)
