JAKARTA: Having established a career in the literary world, Djenar Maesa Ayu plans to try her hand at scriptwriting with the upcoming film Saia.
"We are currently in the phase of finalizing ideas and casting. Hopefully, it will be done by July or September," Djenar said, as quoted by entertainment website kapanlagi.com.
The art of movie making indeed runs in her blood. Djenar seems to have inherited the talents of her late father - renowned director Sjuman Djaja - and her mother, actress Tutie Kirana.
Aside from writing the script for Saia, Djenar will also direct and act in the film.
"It will be a bit adult," she said, adding that it was why she planned to release the movie abroad; she however did not mention in which specific countries.
"Here, there are a lot of limitations on being creative. We cannot be total in art because it could spark controversy," said the writer known for her novel Mereka Bilang Saya Monyet (They Say I'm a Monkey). - JP
