The General Elections Commission (KPU) estimates it will need another Rp 2.8 trillion (US$277.2 million) if the presidential election goes into a second round.

“We estimate we will need a total of Rp 4 trillion for logistics if the presidential election goes on to a second round. So far, we have Rp 1.2 trillion in funds we saved from the legislative election budget,” KPU secretary-general Suripto Bambang Setyadi said Monday.

The KPU would request a meeting with the House of Representatives and the Finance Ministry on Thursday to discuss the disbursement of the additional funds, he said.

“The funds will be disbursed from the revision of the 2009 state budget,” Suripto said.

The government had disbursed Rp 13.5 trillion for the legislative election and the first round of the presidential election. For the legislative election, the commission had received Rp 6.6 trillion, Rp 2.8 trillion of which had not been used. The unused amount had been returned to the state. (fmb
