Indonesian shuttlers let their medal chances slip from their hands in the finals of the Singapore Open Super Series on Sunday.

Indonesia's red hot favorites Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan lost 12-21, 11-21 in a surprise upset to British duo Nathan Robertson and Anthony Clark, ranked 19th in the world, in the men's doubles final at the US$200,000 tournament.

"It was an anticlimax for us. We performed much better yesterday *Saturday*," Hendra said, as quoted by Antara. "But they played really well today."

Kido added: "We played very bad today. That's all, no other reason."

The 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medalists and world No. 1 pair failed to match Robertson/Clark's speed.

"They're the best in the world on their day and to win 12 and 11 is quite incredible," Robertson said, as quoted by AP.

Kido and Hendra promised to improve their performance at this week's Djarum Indonesia Open Super Series. They last won this title in 2005.

Indonesia's women's doubles pair Greysia Polii and Nitya Krishinda meanwhile lost their final to fifth seeds and world No. 10 Zhang Yawen and Zhao Tingting of China 14-21, 13-21, in 55 minutes.

"We had a similar chance but the Chinese pair was much in control of the game," Greysia said.

It was the first final for the pair, who first teamed up at the Taiwan Open Grand Prix Gold last September.

Coach Aryono Miranat said that while the pair learned a valuable lesson from the final match, the hard work awaits when they compete before a home crowd during the Indonesia Open.

China took home two other titles from the tournament. The badminton powerhouse took the mixed doubles gold medal thanks to Zheng Bo and Ma Jin, who defeated their compatriots Zhang and Xie Zhongbo 19-21, 21-19, 21-11. China's Bao Chunlai also defeated Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand 21-19, 16-21, 21-16.

However, Hong Kong's Zhou Mi, ranked No.2 in the world, spoiled China's chance of collecting another title after defeating former world No. 1 and 2008 Beijing Olympics silver medalist Xie Xingfang in a tough battle, 21-19, 18-21, 21-10. - JP
