JAKARTA: A motorboat carrying 240 passengers almost sank on its way to Panggang Island in the Thousand Islands regency, around an hour after departing Muara Angke, North Jakarta, on Saturday.
Passengers had urged the boat's captain to evacuate them quickly after realizing sea water was filling the cabin.
The boat, named KM Radja, was evidently filled beyond capacity as it was only supposed to carry a maximum of 80 passengers at one time.
The situation was exacerbated since the boat was also carrying around 200 gallons of drinking water.
"We were evacuated by another boat. All of us are safe," passenger Andi, 23, said as quoted by beritajakarta.com. - JP
