Indonesia has won praises for being a leader in democracy, pluralism, and gender equality in Asia, said Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda on Tuesday.
"Indonesia has been touted as a successful country for promoting democracy forums, such as the Bali Democracy forum," said Hassan in an annual lecture at the Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University in Jakarta.
He said Indonesia had produced many prominent diplomats but they had not been widely recognized at home.
“Many Indonesian diplomats such as M. Roem are known worldwide. But their presence at home has been overshadowed by war heroes,” he said.
