The Indonesian military (TNI) will begin a joint training exercise dubbed "Garuda Shield 2009" with United Nations peace keeping forces from 24 countries in Bandung, West Javaon Tuesday.
THI chief Gen. Djoko Santoso and chiefs of staff are scheduled to open the
training at 10 a.m.
The training, aimed at promoting cooperation between the countries' armed
forces, especially in UN peacekeeping missions, will run until June 29.
Members of armed forces from 24 countries including the United States, Bangladesh,
Australia, Cambodia, France,
German, Italy, Japan, Singapore,
Thailand and Vietnam will
participate in the exercise.
TNI will host the training at the Infantry
Training Center
in Cipatat, Padalarang, Bandung, West Java.
Since 1957, Indonesia has been
involved in 15 UN peacekeeping missions, including in Egypt, Vietnam,
Lebanon and the Congo. (dre)
