MATARAM: The National Body for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI), working with West Nusa Tenggara administration, has established a center for arriving migrant workers at Selaparang airport in Mataram.
BNP2TKI chairman M. Jumhur Hidayat promised that the center would help to guard the workers between the airport and their hometowns.
"Besides guarding the workers, the center will also help the government identify arriving migrant workers who have had problems overseas," Jumhur told reporters after inaugurating the center on Tuesday.
The center was the third in the country, after similar centers in Selapanjang terminal in Tangerang, Banten Province, and the Migrant Worker Terminal in Solo, Central Java.
Similar centers would be built at Juanda airport in Surabaya, Tanjung Priok port in Jakarta and at Sri Bintan Pura in Tanjung Pinang, Riau islands province, this year.
BNP2TKI also plans to build centers in Semarang, Medan, Nunukan, Entikong and Pare-Pare, Jumhur said.-JP
