TANGERANG: The 3,500 residents of Sepatan, Pasar Kemis, Balaraja, Rajeg and Jayanti districts in Tangerang regency will be able to enjoy clean water in the near future, with the construction of another clean water installation facility started on Tuesday.
The facility in Karet village, Sepatan, is being built by PT Aetra Air Tangerang in collaboration with the Tangerang regency administration.
Aetra Air Tangerang director Abdulbar Mansur said the company would build a water utility with an output of 900 liters of water per second, to meet the demand from 72,000 consumers comprising households and industry.
"In the first phase of the construction, we will concentrate on supplying clean water for the five districts," he said.
Aetra Air Tangerang is part of a consortium of Acuatico Pte. Ltd, a foreign water operator.
The same firm provides water for the eastern part of Jakarta through the company PT Aetra Air Jakarta.
The regency administration and the company signed a concession agreement to build the water facility to supply the five districts with clean water in August last year, with a concession period of 25 years.
Tangerang regency, with a population of 3.5 million, has long depended on the existing water operator PDAM Tirta Kerta Raharja.
But the company cannot meet the current demand for clean water to residents in the 36 districts across the regency due to inadequate infrastructure. - JP
