State owned PT Timah, the world's second-largest tin producer, plans to replace its traditional supply chain management system with SAP-based supply chain management, costing the firm around Rp 60 billion (US$6 million).

The project is expected to be complete within eight months, PT Timah chief financial officer M. Khrisna Syarif said Wednesday.

"SAP supply chain management will provide very useful information to the management. We be able to access all important information, including profitability analysis and costing, on time," Khrisna told a press conference.

The new system would allow the company to diversify its market and minimize risks, he added.

PT Timah has set its sights on increasing its output to 50,000 tons this year, from 48,000 tons last year.
