Fuel truck explodes in Tangerang, two injured

TANGERANG: A truck carrying gasoline exploded near an alleged illegal gas depot in Kampung Sawah Dalam in Cipondoh district, Tangerang, on Wednesday morning, injuring two people believed to be workers at the depot.

Cipondoh Police suspect the explosion occurred while workers were filling up the 5,000-liter tanker at around 8 a.m.

"We haven't figured out why, but a fire was lit during the filling, causing the gasoline to explode and severely burn the workers," said Adj. First Insp. Asmawi, as quoted in the police report.

The police could only identify one of the victims, 48-year-old Awi from Pakuhaji, Tangerang, who was taken to the nearby Mayapada Hospital for treatment. -JP
