JAKARTA: Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) has urged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to further investigate lawmakers suspected of having received bribes from Bank Indonesia officials in 2003.
Febri Diansyah from ICW said Hamka Yandhu, a lawmaker sentenced to three years prison for his involvement in the crime, had revealed that all 52 members of Commission IX overseeing banking and financial issues at the House of Representatives received a portion of the Rp 31.5 billion from the central bank's Indonesia Banking Development Foundation (YPPI). The payoffs were made to the House lawmakers to smooth the settlement of BI's liquidity support (BLBI) and accelerate the amendment of a BI law.
"This is the time for the KPK to further investigate the recipients of that money, especially two individuals who are now ministers in the United Indonesia Cabinet," Febri said to Vivanews online Wednesday.
Among those named by Hamka as having received bribes are State Minister for National Development Planning, Paskah Suzetta, and Forestry Minister M.S Kaban. They received Rp 1 billion and Rp 300 million respectively. -JP
