BANYUWANGI: Three fishermen were killed and two others remain missing after large waves overturned their boat in waters off the East Java town of Banyuwangi on Wednesday morning.
A total of 23 people were on board when the tidal waves struck, tempointeraktif.com has reported.
The deceased were identified as Syaiful, Hari and Junaidi.
Nuril Anwar, one of the survivors, said 4-meter waves struck the boat shortly after it embarked on its journey at 6 a.m.
Passing fishermen rescued the survivors. "We are used to strong waves and will keep on fishing to make ends meet," Nuril said. - JP
