Djoko Soegiarto Tjandra, convicted for his role in the BLBI scandal, is considering filing for
a second judicial review by the Supreme Court, his lawyer said
Friday. Djoko and former central
bank governor Syahril Sabirin have been sentenced to two years imprisonment.
Otto Cornelius Kaligis, Djoko's lawyer, denied that his client fled to Papua New Guinea to avoid imprisonment.
"He had flown to Port Morresby before the Supreme Court issued its verdict sentencing him two years in jail," he told The Jakarta Post.
Sabirin began serving his sentence in Cipinang Prison on Tuesday.
Kaligis said that his client had right to file another review. "We want justice. If prosecutors can file for a review, so can we," he added.
Earlier this week, Kaligis mailed a request to the Attorney General to postpone Djoko's sentence. (bbs)
