PURWOKERTO, C. Java: Purwokerto District Court sentenced former treasurer of the Banyumas Elections Commission (KPUD), Eko Supriyono, to two and half years jail Thursday for misappropriating around Rp 390 million (US$39,000) worth of funds from the regency election budget last year.
The court also fined Eko Rp 86 million.
"The defendant should pay the fine. If he cannot, he should serve an additional year in prison," presiding judge Wahyuni said.
Responding to the verdict, both Eko and his prosecutors said they would be considering an appeal.
Eko was arrested in February this year after fleeing Java almost two months ago.
The court has already sentenced all five members of the KPUD to an average two years jail for misusing the election budget, worth more than Rp 1 billion. - JP
