JAKARTA: Want to watch the world's longest kerak telor (a traditional Betawi omelette made of duck eggs and rice) being made? Then visit the Mall of Indonesia in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, this Saturday.

The North Jakarta municipal administration has commissioned a 50-meter-long kerak telor from 50 kerak telor makers using - in honor of the city's upcoming 482nd birthday - 482 liters of rice, 482 duck eggs and 4,820 grams of serundeng (crisp, shredded coconut seasoned with spices and cooked with either chicken, beef, fish or shrimp).

"The kerak telor, the most widely recognized Betawi dish, is one of our ways of celebrating the city's birthday. North Jakarta plans to have this recorded as the longest kerak telor in the world," said municipality spokesman Hasmi Chalid, as quoted by beritajakarta.com. -JP
