JAKARTA: Around 25,000 runners from Indonesia and other parts of the world took part in the 10-kilometer race in Thamrin-Sudirman area Sunday morning. The race was held to celebrate Jakarta's 482th birthday, which fell on June 22.

The runners took over the area's Transjakarta bus lane, which expands from Monas (the national monument) to Semanggi, prompting the bus company to make the lane unavailable for its usual purpose of transporting commuters, between 6 a.m. and 9.30 am.

The bus route from Harmoni shelter was diverted to Pecenongan area, Central Jakarta, from its usual route to Monas. Two shelters, the City Hall shelter and the Gambir 2 shelters, also had to be closed temporarily to accommodate the race. - JP
