Govt may stop sending migrant workers to Malaysia

The government has considered stopping sending migrant workers to Malaysia temporarily due to various abuses against Indonesian workers in the neighboring country.
Manpower and Transmigration Ministry spokesman Sumardoko said, however, the government may not immediately realize the plan to stop sending migrant workers.
"Our ministry must coordinate with other ministries such as the Foreign Ministry, the National Police, and Justice and Human Rights Ministry about our plan to temporarily halt sending migrant workers to Malaysia," he was quoted by
Kompas.com as saying.
He said the government had to calculate its plan as it would seriously increase the unemployment rate at home and reduce the state revenue sent by migrant workers.
There are 2.5 million Indonesian workers in Malaysia, according to him.

The trend of migrant workers would not be a serious matter if the Indonesian people from all walks of life received free education from the start.
They can eventually continue for higher education, receive government scholarships if any to study abroad and return to build the nation. And unemployment in the country won't so elevated providing that the younger generation are all educated and fulfill skilled jobs that foreign workers are taking away from Indonesians at the very moment.
Those Indonesians who have studied abroad should also be given the full respect that they are willing to return and share their experiences instead of giving the cold shoulder in the local work force. There is still a stigma that Indonesians who are educated locally are very much threatened by Indonesians with foreign education. Therefore employing foreigners would be most effective in eliminating discrimination from local educated Indonesians. This is a known fact. Agreed or not agreed.
Without a strong educated population and work experiences; this nation will not thrive further. The people no matter who and where they come from in Indonesia must be taken seriously for nourishing this nation for a better future.
