The Central Kalimantan Public Works Agency has begun widening the road as part of a project to upgrade the Trans-Kalimantan highway which connects the South, Central and West Kalimantan provinces.
“We are widening a 800-kilometer stretch of the highway connecting Central and South Kalimantan. The priority of the project is to widen the road to increase the road's capacity,” said Ben Brahim, head of the agency, as quoted by Antara state news agency on Tuesday.
He said to comply with current regulations, the southern Kalimantan highway should be at least 11 meters wide to qualify as an artery road. Out of the total 800 kilometers of road, 450 kilometers are still only six meters wide and 350 kilometers are only 4.5 meters wide. (dre)
