JAKARTA: The General Elections Commission (KPU) stated that, as of Monday, less than 1 percent of ballots ready for next week's presidential election were damaged.
"We have received reports that there were damaged ballots in several areas such as in Brebes and Malang in East Java, and several regencies in Sumatra. But, the overall tally of damaged ballots is still less than 1 percent," deputy chairman of the commission's logistics bureau, Boradi, said on Monday.
The commission, through six printing companies, has completed the production of 180 million ballots, which it is expected to distribute by June 25.
Boradi said the damaged ballots would be destroyed and the printing companies must replace them by June 25. A ballot is considered damaged if it has holes, ink stains, is ripped or if the images of the candidates are blurry. - JP
