The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) announced Tuesday that Udju Djuhaeri, who had been named one of four suspects in a bribery case relating to the election of a Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor in 2004, had resigned from the agency.

BPK's public relation's bureau said in a press statement released on Tuesday that Udju filed his resignation on Friday last week and it was approved by the BPK through a plenary meeting. The BPK had recommended to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono that Udja be discharged from the agency.

Earlier this month, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named four suspects in a bribery case relating to Miranda Goeltom’s 2004 election as Bank Indonesia’s senior deputy governor.

The four suspects include Udju, then a lawmaker, Hamka Yandhu from the Golkar Party, Dudhie Makmun Murod from the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and Endin A.J. Soefihara from the United Development Party (PPP).

The case came to light after former PDI-P lawmaker Agus Tjondro Prayitno admitted before the anti-graft body and the Corruption Court last year that he had received Rp 500 million (US$50,000) in traveler’s checks a few days after the House of Representatives approved Miranda’s appointment as BI’s senior deputy governor.

KPK pointed out that there may be more suspects involved in the case and additional information may be discovered after further investigation of the four. (dre)
