AKARTA: The annual Jakarnaval street carnival will roll out on June 28 as one of the many events to commemorate the city's anniversary.
Arie Budhiman, head of the city's culture and tourism agency, said Tuesday the carnival would feature decorative cars and various participants, including bicycle communities, a horse troop from the police's mobile brigade, and musical and theatrical groups.
"We want to showcase the variety in Jakarta, which has become a melting pot," he said.
He added the 10th annual carnival will run from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., along a 3-kilometer route from City Hall on Jl. Merdeka Selatan, to Jl. Thamrin in Central Jakarta.
The carnival will end at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, where a Betawi comedy will be staged.
Arie said the carnival would be held during the Car-Free Day, to ease traffic management.
"The hours for Car-Free Day will be extended for the Jakarnaval, so we won't have to redirect traffic twice," he said.
