The Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) says that eventhough popularity of the incumbent President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and his running mate Boediono tend to decrease but theirs are still higher than the two other contenders.
A survey conducted from June 15 to 20, found that 67.2 percent voters would choose SBY, 15.8 percent choose Megawati Soekarnoputri, 8.3 percent choose Jusuf Kalla and the rest 8.7 percent stated they had yet to make up their mind.
“We surveyed 2,000 people in 17 provinces to monitor their electoral behavior on president and vice president candidates,” LSI senior researcher Syaiful Muljani told a conference here on Wednesday.
The result was lower than 71 percent gained by SBY in LSI’s May survey, 16 percent for Megawati and 6 percent for JK.
Syaiful said JK’s popularity tended to increase due to his intensive campaign and variety of content for his advertisements, which gave positive impression to the public.
However, he reminded the survey was not a real reflection of the presidential election result, it was only a mapping which expected to be guidance for the candidates’ victory team to improve their performances.
