The West Java branch of the Family Planning Coordinating Agency will distribute 1.8 million condoms free of charge to sexually mature couples this year.

Rukman Heryana, head of the agency, said Thursday the condoms would be distributed in 91,000 packets through local community health centers.

“We no longer use the condom vending machine following protests from the public,” he said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com in Bandung.

According to the agency's data, there area around 8.2 million sexually mature couples in the province, but only 6 million participate in the government's Keluarga Berencana (family planning) program, which aims to curb Indonesia'a growth rate with the aid of contraception. (dre)
