President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's plan to propose Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati as one of the candidates for Bank Indonesia (BI) governor is seen as market positive, Citi says.
It has been reported that Yudhoyono on Wednesday said there might be two candidates for BI governor, although did not disclose the other candidate.
"We think Sri Mulyani’s potential appointment would be seen as market positive given her credible track record, though the key uncertainty is who will take over the coordinating economic minister position if she leaves that post," Citi analyst Johanna Chua said in a statement Thursday.
Mulyani is also the coordinating minister for the economy. BI deputy governor Hartadi A. Sarwono has been reported as another strong candidate to be BI governor.
The current acting BI governor is BI senior deputy governor Miranda S. Goeltom, replacing Boediono who runs as a vice president hopeful.
Miranda's position as BI's senior deputy governor will be replaced by tax office chief Darmin Nasution in late July.
