DENPASAR: The Bali General Elections Commission (KPUD) has won four election disputes filed by three parties over the results of the recent legislative elections.
After the elections, the Golkar Party and PNBK filed four lawsuits against the KPUD for alleged polling violations in the three regencies of Buleleng, Jembrana and Tabanan.
During the hearing at the Constitutional Court in Jakarta, the court rejected the lawsuits on the grounds of inadequate evidence.
KPUD spokesman Ida Bagus Ludra said the commission had been in the clear all along.
"The parties couldn't provide the court with any supporting evidence," he said.
He added the KPUD had to improve its efficiency for the upcoming presidential election.
"We found we had many shortcomings in the last elections. Now we have to improve to minimize any mistakes," Ludra said.
He added the KPUD was optimistic it could hold the presidential election much more successfully.
"It's much simpler than the legislative elections," he said.
Bali will have 2,695,411 eligible voters. KPUD will set up 5,099 polling booths across the island for the election. -JP
