At least 20 residents of Bira village in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi, have been treated at the local community health center after consuming food served at a feast on Friday, Antara state news agency has reported.

The victims, both adults and children, fell ill after a circumcision ceremony feast held by one of the villagers. Marianti, 32, one of the victims, said she had a stomachache and kept vomiting an hour after eating.

The health center was having difficulties with the number of the victims as they had refused to be taken to the nearest hospital, which is 31 kilometers away.

Nurbaya, head of the health center, said it was not certain whether the victim were suffering from food poisoning, however local police had taken samples of the food served at the party to be examined. (dre)
