JAKARTA: The Jakarta Education Agency said Friday public schools should not sell seats to prospective students, and reiterated that enrollment in public schools was free.

Agency head Taufik Yudhi said his office would deploy officials to monitor the enrollment process in schools to prevent selling of seats.

The agency's deputy head, Kamaluddin, said schools found carrying out the practice would be punished.

Punishment will be in the form of demotion after warnings are given.
