Journalist attacked during VP candidate campaign

JAYAPURA: Local journalists have filed a report with the local police in Jayapura, Papua, following a violent attack on a journalist during vice presidential candidate Boediono's campaign tour on Friday.

Journalist Odeadata Julia from the Sinar Harapan daily was attacked at the Swissbell Hotel, where Boediono, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's running mate, was staying during the tour.

Odeadata sustained a back injury and was left unconscious after the attack, kompas.com reported. Witnesses identified Odeadata's assailant as a cadre from SBY's Democratic Party named Rudolph.

Yudhoyono-Boediono campaign team spokesman Rizal Malarangeng has apologized to journalists, but the journalists assigned to the tour said they would be boycotting coverage of the tour. - JP
